Patrick Hoban needs no introduction. He's one of the most successful players of the past two years, winning the 2013 North American World Championship Qualifier and YCS Toronto 2014, and he's here today with his Shaddoll variant. Michael Glowacki is here today piloting his Burning Abyss deck; he recently won the TCGplayer Chicago 2.5k event. This is a feature match between veteran duelists and I'm sure we'll see some awesome plays!

Hoban drew Chaos Sorcerer. He thought for a moment, and then opted on passing. Glowacki used Phoenix Wing Wind Blast discarding Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to bounce Dimensional Prison, and Hoban chained Vanity's Emptiness. However, Glowacki had another Phoenix Wing Wind Blast which he used to top deck Emptiness discarding Tour Guide From the Underworld. Vanity's went to the top of the deck and Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss was Special Summoned in defense position.

Glowacki passed.

Hoban drew Vanity's Emptiness and passed.

Glowacki switched Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to attack position and then swung for 800.

Hoban drew Dimensional Prison, set it, and passed.

Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss hit for 800 direct, and Hoban flipped Dimensional Prison, but Glowacki had the Compulsory Evacuation Device to bounce Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss back to his hand! Glowacki set two backrows and passed.

Hoban drew Shaddoll Dragon, and used Soul Charge to bring back Shaddoll Squamata. He then used Shaddoll Fusion but Glowacki had the Vanity's Emptiness! His opening hand was Mathematician, Forbidden Lance, Shaddoll Core, Vanity's Emptiness, and Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn. He Normal Summoned Raiden and milled another Raiden and Mathematician. After some light banter between duelists, Glowacki opted to go second. Hoban opened with Mathematician, Black Dragon Collapserpent, Shaddoll Squamata, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Shaddoll Beast. He Normal Summoned Mathematician and sent Shaddoll Squamata to his grave. That sent Shaddoll Beast, which allowed Hoban to draw into a Breakthrough Skill. Glowacki used Allure of Darkness to draw to cards, and then he banished Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. He then Normal Summoned a Mathematician of his own, which Hoban allowed to go through. Wow! That was a back and forth, bloody match between two great players with two of the best decks, and at the end of the day Hoban came out on top! Fantastic combos and decisions by both players made this an awesome Feature Match, and we'll probably be seeing these two tomorrow for Day 2. While this Shaddoll and Burning Abyss matchup ended in Shaddoll's favor this time, tons of others just ended and it's anyone's game. I can't wait to see what the Top 16 breakdown is going to look like.
