Wesley Johnson is here from Alabama with his Burning Abyss deck featuring Skill Drain and Beast King Barbaros. Caleb Cosby is back again with his Tribute Stun deck, and this is a match on the bubble. It's the last round before Swiss, and it all begins right now! A win for Cosby would ensure Johnson would be knocked out of competition, but a win for Johnson was expected to place both players into the Top 16. Caleb won the die roll and chose to go second.

Johnson Normal Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld to bring out Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the deck. He then used Supply Squad. He overlaid his two monsters for Number 17: Leviathan Dragon, and then detached the Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss to pump it up to 2500 ATK. Graff brought out Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the deck, which destroyed itself and let Johnson draw a card with Supply Squad. Johnson then activated a second Supply Squad, set a face-down. In the End Phase he searched Tour Guide From the Underworld.

Cosby opened with Caius, Soul Exchange, Royal Decree, Forbidden Chalice, Cardcar D, and Vanity's Fiend. He used Soul Exchange, tributing Leviathan for Vanity's Fiend. He set his Chalice and Decree and ended.

Johnson thought for a moment, locked down by Vanity's Fiend. He set a monster and ended.

Caleb drew another Vanity's Fiend. He attacked over a Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss with Vanity's Fiend, and then Johnson drew two cards from Supply Squads. Cosby set Cardcar D.

Johnson set a monster and a backrow. In the End Phase Cosby flipped Royal Decree.

Cosby drew Forbidden Chalice. He tributed Cardcar D for Caius the Shadow Monarch, which banished a set Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and inflicted 1000 damage. Two attacks later and Johnson was down to 2200 Life Points. Caleb set Chalice and ended.

Johnson drew to five cards in hand, still under lockdown. He set a monster and a backrow.

Cosby drew Forbidden Lance. He attacked over a face-down Tour Guide From the Underworld with Vanity's Fiend and Johnson drew two cards. Caius attacked directly for game!

Johnson chose to go first, hoping to set up a board before Cosby could prevent him from playing cards. He started off with Tour Guide From the Underworld to Special Summon Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from the deck. He overlaid his two monsters for Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, and then used its effect to mill Mystical Space Typhoon, Beast King Barbaros, and Mobius the Frost Monarch. He set a backrow and searched out Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss in the End Phase.

Cosby started with two Cardcar D's, Forbidden Lance, Pot of Duality, March of the Monarchs, and The End of Anubis. He used Pot of Duality to reveal two Fire Hands and another Duality. He added the Duality. Next, he Normal Summoned Cardcar D. He set Pot of Duality and then used Cardcar to draw Soul Exchange and Vanity's Fiend.

Johnson Normal Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld to Special Summon Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss from his deck. He used Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss to mill Supply Squad, Skill Drain, and Mystical Space Typhoon. He then attacked with Tour Guide From the Underworld, Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, and Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, dropping Cosby to 2900. In Main Phase 2 he Special Summoned Downerd Magician. Then he overlaid for Ghostrick Alucard to pop the set Duality. He set a facedown.

Cosby drew another Soul Exchange. He used it immediately, targeting Downerd Magician. Johnson saved it with Forbidden Lance. Cosby used his second Soul Exchange targeting Ghostrick Alucard. Then he played March of the Monarchs. He tributed the Alucard for Vanity's Fiend and set Forbidden Lance.

Johnson set a monster and a backrow.

Cosby drew Fire Hand. He Normal Summoned it, entered the Battle Phase, and crashed it into Downerd Magician. Fire Hand destroyed Johnson's face-down Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, but no Ice Hand was Special Summoned because of Vanity's Fiend. Vanity's Fiend attacked over Downerd Magician and Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss added back Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. In the End Phase he added Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss.

Johnson drew, unable to play cards due to Vanity's Fiend and March of the Monarchs. “I don't have any outs to that field besides Skill Drain and Barbaros, and I don't have either of those.” Forced to scoop, he admitted defeat. Luckily for him, Cosby gave him the win so both players would make it to the Top 16 after a friendly match! Good sportsmanship all around here at the TCGplayer YGO Series.

Unfortunately for Cosby, that attempt at good sportsmanship would actually cost him dearly. When the results were in and Round 11 was finished, it turned out Cosby – and many following the tournament online and at the venue – had miscalculated. Cosby's amazing run here at the YGO Series $10k Championship with Tribute Stun actually ended with this match; his concession would see him finish in a tragic 17th place.

Remember: when you're competing in any big tournament, judges and event staff will refuse to answer questions about which records can and can't make the playoff cut. Part of the reason for that policy is situations just like this. If you're hugging the bubble, you really shouldn't take any chances, even if you're doing it with nothing but the most honorable intentions. A heartbreaking twist of events here at the YGO Series $10k.
