Top Five Spell/Trap Removal Spell/Trap Cards

Kris Crater

Hey, everybody. I am going for something different this week. Today I am going to be looking at the top five Spell/Trap removal cards that are Spell/Trap cards. This is used for the advanced format of play. Since duelists have lost the use of Harpie's Feather Duster and Mystical Space Typhoon has been restricted one, players will need to come up with different strategies to removal their opponents Spell/Trap cards. This article is here to help all duelists who are having difficulty thinking of ways to destroy Spell/Trap cards. So please enjoy.

First let's take a look at the candidates.

Spell Cards.

LOD-015 Double Snare
Normal Magic
Select 1 face-up card on the field that has the effect that negates Trap Cards' effects and destroy it.

Pros: This card can not only stop Jinzo, but also destroys Royal Decree.
Cons: This card is still way too situational. What are the odds of you drawing it when there is a Royal Decree on the field?
Rating: 1/5

LOD-044 A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon
Normal Magic
Return 1 face-up Level 5 or higher Dragon-Type monster on your side of the field to the owner's hand and destroy all Magic and Trap Cards on the field.

Pros: This could work great for Dragon type decks, but other than that, this card can be useless. This has a good Heavy Storm effect for dragon decks. The only cards this could really work on is Luster Dragon #1 for Dragon decks.
Cons: This is only for dragon decks, plus you will have to lose one monster on your side of the field, and this could also destroy your Spell/Traps.
Rating: 1.5/5

LOD-046 Stamping Destruction
Normal Magic
You can activate this card only when you have a face-up Dragon-Type monster on your side of the field. Destroy 1 Spell or Trap Card on the field to inflict 500 points of Direct Damage to the destroyed card's controller.

Pros: This cards gives you a Mini type of a Mystical Space Typhoon effect for Dragon decks, and deals damage to your opponent. So not only does your opponent lose a card, they also take 500 life points of damage.
Cons: Once again, this card is only good for dragon decks. Plus this card gives your opponent the opportunity to chain the card that you target.
Rating: 2/5

Dark Magic Attack
You can only activate this card when there is a face-up "Dark Magician" on your side of the field. Destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on your opponent's side of the field.

Pros: This card can work extremely well in Dark Magician decks. This card gives you a Harpie's Feather Duster when you have a Dark Magician on the field.
Cons: Only works for Dark Magician decks, and you have to draw this card or already have it when you have a Dark Magician on your side of the field.
Rating: 2.5/5

LOB- 060
Remove Trap
Destroys 1 face-up Trap card on the Field.

Pros: This card can work wonders on almost any type of burn deck. This card can take down, Royal Decree, Gravity Bind, Call of the Haunted and other annoying continuous Trap cards.
Cons: This card only works for face up Trap cards. Other than that this card could just be a bad top deck, or dead draw.
Rating: 2.5/5

SDJ -029
Destroys 1 Spell Card on the field. If this card's target is face-down, flip it face-up. If the card is a Spell Card, it is destroyed. If not, it is returned to its face-down position. The flipped card is not activated.

Pros: This can also stop burn decks to. This card works on Swords of Revealing Light, Level-Limit Area B, and other cards that stay on the field. Also this card can destroy set Spell cards too. Like when people bluff with Premature Burial.
Cons: This card doesn't stop trap cards. If the face down card is a trap you just wasted a card. They can also chain quick play spell cards to this card.
Rating: 2.5/5

Heavy Storm
Destroys all Spell/Trap cards on the Field.

Do I really need to talk about this card? The only bad thing is that it kills your Spell/Trap cards, if you have any on the field.
Rating: 4.5/5

Mystical Space Typhoon
Quick Play Spell
Destroy 1 Spell or Trap card on the Field.

This card is also self-explanatory too. There is a reason they restricted this card to one. Rating: 4/5

Giant Trunade
Return all Spell and Trap cards on the Field to their respective owner's hands.

Pros: This card has a Heavy Storm effect except it will not destroy trap cards. You can combo this with Swords of Revealing Light, Card Destruction, and Premature Burial. This card can be used as a second Heavy Storm.
Cons: If you cannot finish your opponent off in the turn you played this card, they will get to reuse what they set. Your opponent can also chain to this card.
Rating: 3.5/5

PSV - 35
Nobleman of Extermination
Destroy 1 face-down Magic or Trap Card and remove it from play. If the card is a Trap Card, both players must remove all Trap Cards of the same name from their respective Decks and remove them from play. The Decks are then shuffled.

Pros: This card is really underrated. This has the ability to remove a Spell or Trap card from the game. This has a mini Mystical Space Typhoon effect. This card has known to be game ending in my tournament area.
Cons: The targeted card can be chained. You have to remove the trap card if you have the same one in your deck.
Rating: 3.5/5

LON - 096
Bait Doll
Force the activation of 1 face-down Trap Card. If the timing of the activation of the Trap Card is incorrect, negate the effect and destroy it. If it is not a Trap Card, it is returned to its original position. After this card is activated, it is placed into the Deck (not the Graveyard). The Deck is then shuffled

Pros: This card can stop Ring of Destruction or Torrential Tribute if the timing is wrong. It also negates the trap cards effect. Not only that but you can reuse this card again if you draw it from your deck.
Cons: If it's a face down Spell card it does nothing. Sometimes it not to good to draw this card again after you have already used it. Your opponent can also chain the face down trap card.
Rating: 2.5./5

Now the trap cards

Seven Tools of the Bandit
Pay 1000 of your life pints to negate the activation of a Trap card and destroy it.

Pros: This card has the fastest Spell speed, so this can be used to chain to any trap card. This card can stop Ring of Destruction, Torrential Tribute, Call of the Haunted, Gravity Bind, and many other trap cards.
Cons: The cost of 1000 life points. Useless to draw with Jinzo on the field. Useless to have with Jinzo on the field.
Rating: 2.5/5

PSV - 011
Dust Tornado
Destroy 1 Spell or Trap on your opponent's side of the field. You can then Set 1 Spell or Trap Card from your hand. This card can only be activated if it is a Quick-Play Magic Card.

Pros: In my opinion I think this is the best Trap card that destroys Spell/Trap card on your opponent's side of the field. This has a Mystical Space Typhoon for your opponent. You can also chain with this card. You can also set a Quick Play Spell card from your hand for the cards second effect.
Cons: You cannot use this on your own cards (Mirage of Nightmares.) Sometimes this can just be a dead card on the field. You have to wait one turn in order to use it.
Rating: 3.5/5

So here is how it stacks up.
1. Heavy Storm
2. Mystical Space Typhoon
3. Nobleman of Extermination
4. Dust Tornado
5. Giant Trunade

Thank you everyone and have a fun time dueling.
