Welcome to another Monday installment of Market Watch!

Last week we saw the OCG reveal of the Juunishishi theme from Raging Tempest draw big interest to a wealth of older cards, as Fire Formation – Tensu, Fire Formation – Tenki, Xyz Gift, and Coach King Giantrainer took over our Top 10. The Juunishishi grabbed a ton of attention with impressive combo plays that can flood the field off just one Speedroid Terrortop, and that set the TCGplayer marketplace ablaze; Coach King Giantrainer jumped from 50 cents to 15 dollars overnight, as players scrabbled to gather every copy they could find.

Fast forward through the weekend and Regional Qualifiers returned to North America, providing homegrown pushback against OCG-inspired trends! Combined with more widespread coverage of results from YCS Mexico City, where decks like Mermails and Gadgets found new levels of success, early Regional results coming off Saturday events helped push a number of big cards back into the Top 10 spotlight.

The result was an eclectic set of cards for today's Top 10 countdown that all speak to a common theme for the format: diversity. Gadgets, Metalfoes, mixed Pendulums, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and the upcoming Juunishishi all had a seat at the table in our Market Watch today, as we examine the biggest selling cards from Friday to this morning.

#10: Gold Gadget

Carlos Sima's Brilliant Blazing Gadget build from the Top 32 at YCS Mexico City last weekend captured global attention, bringing Gadgets back into the competitive eye for the first time since the debut of new monsters in the Dark Side of Dimensions Movie Pack. I wrote on that deck in competitive corner last week and explained its unique approach to the current competitive landscape, so if you missed that, do yourself a favor and check it out. With a totally different angle to competition, characterized by a ton of traps and a king-of-the-hill explosive grind, it really could have legs.

Clearly a lot of duelfans suspect the strategy could carry forward, because Gold Gadget and Silver Gadget saw huge sales over the weekend. Could Gadgets become a competitive factor? We'll find out in the coming weeks.

#9: Metalfoes Goldriver

Metalfoes were cemented this weekend as a definite threat, after the deck scored dual wins at the Ultimate Duelist Series Summer Invitational and YCS Mexico City. Jowgen the Spiritualist continued to be a hot tech pick in the face of Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Burning Abyss variants, and that made Metalfoes Goldriver a hot pick for new players picking up the deck.

While the Common and regular Rare Metalfoes Pendulum Monsters sold in droves off the release of The Dark Illusion, the fact that they're still moving in such vast numbers goes to show that interest is still growing.

#8: Return of the Dragon Lords

Meanwhile Blue-Eyes White Dragon may still be on top. The deck was markedly missing from the Top 8 of the Regional Qualifier in Tulsa Oklahoma – a big surprise from the dominant performance the deck put in for the first three weeks of the format. But BEWD still slayed in other Regionals this past weekend, and it still appears to be the deck-to-beat… even if competitors are starting to figure out how to beat it.

The biggest deck of the format's definitely coming under fire, but players are still flocking to it. With big reprints coming in Legendary Decks II, we could easily see more weeks of Blue-Eyes White Dragon leading in tournaments.

#7: Coach King Giantrainer

Last week's Number 1 pick fell to Number 7 over the weekend, which is certainly no surprise given the card's price point: in fact, at $7 a pop for the most affordable copies in the TCGplayer marketplace it's kind of remarkable that Coach King Giantrainer remained as popular as it did.

But printed only once in the underappreciated Number Hunters set and with no reprint on the horizon, demand was strong for what's looking to be a Juunishishi staple. Speculators might have had their fill last week, but now a lot of actual players are likely deciding that it's best to get their Giantrainers now before the price spikes even higher en route to Raging Tempest.

#6: Silver Gadget

Where Gold Gadget goes Silver Gadget follows, and that Brilliant Blazing Gadget hype combined with ABC-Dragon Buster anticipation shot Silver Gadget right to the Number 6 spot over the weekend. The Special Summoning, hand-fixing, self-replacing Silver and Gold Gadgets are so flexible, so accessible, and do so much to boost consistency, that they're virtually a must-run for any Machine strategy moving forward.

If you can fit Silver Gadget and Gold Gadget into a Machine deck you definitely want to do so, and that makes both cards a hot pick any time there's a strong Machine presence on the horizon.

#5: D/D Savant Thomas

With the realization that North America won't be getting a Special Edition reprinting of The Dark Illusion, a number of cards from that release became big sellers over the past week, none bigger than D/D Savant Thomas. One of the few Different Dimension Demons played in multiples in the final version of the deck we'll see next year, Savant Thomas' low price point as a regular Rare made it a popular buy for knowledgeable speculators the past couple weeks, and that's driven its average Market Price up from a quarter to $1.50 already.

That growth blows away the expectations of many speculative buyers, and we could see D/D Savant Thomas take that $4 or $5 spot that's so rarely reserved for marquee Rares like Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju. The January release of the Pendulum Domination Structure Deck is still in the distant future, but the fervor for D/D/D cards is in full froth.

#4: Xyz Gift

While Coach King Giantrainer shot up in price almost the moment the Juunishishi news broke last week, Xyz Gift remained affordable. Whether the powerful Draw 2 card will actually come to have a competitive role is up in the air, and that combined with strong supply has kept its price approachable through the weekend. It's a bit of a tossup, so we'll have to see how the card does in coming weeks.

#3: Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer

Mixed Pendulums keep gaining more and more footing, and marquee performances like Oscar Renderos' win over 900 other duelists at the MASSIVE Los Angeles Regional this weekend helped reignite interest in new versions of the classic, never-say-die Draco Pal deck. Similar performances from Chaz Shoop and Esala Wuthantrige, the latter of whom ran triple Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer in a build with Odd-Eyes and Majespecters, helped build demand for the card earlier on, and go to show its flexibility in the current format.

Fresh off its 2016 Mega-Tin reprint and newly accessible, Pendulum Sorcerer's making a big impact, and could be building momentum.

#2: Blackwing - Gofu the Vague Shadow

With Metalfoes gaining more and more ground, Blackwing - Gofu the Vague Shadow continues to see lots of demand. While it can be run in everything from Heroes to Monarchs, Gofu sees far more play as a near three-of-staple in Metalfoes, and the deck's surging success over the weekend is surely the reason for its return to the Number 2 spot in today's countdown.

#1: Coach Captain Bearman

And finally, our winner for the weekend is none other than Coach Captain Bearman! A necessity for making Coach King Giantrainer in Juunishishi, Bearman's searchable with Juunishishi Bullhorn and exists in the deck to turn your two Juunnishishi Molmorats into Level 8's so you can make Giantrainer. And while Giantrainer's price jump put it out of the reach of a lot of players and speculators not yet fully sold on the theme, Bearman remained a cheap get at under a dollar.

That said, note that it's an Ultra Rare from an older set, and on an upward Price Trend. The current list of available sellers may be three pages deep, but stock is short form all of those suppliers. If the card continues to sell in such wild numbers it could easily sell out and jump at least a few dollars from its current 50 cent price point.

Just skirting the Top 10 this week, Majespecter Raccoon – Bunbuku continued to see strong sales as Majespecters continue to take Top 8 showings as both pure strategies and complimentary card suites in other themes. D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc was a big pick as more players take up Different Dimension Demons and get prepped for the Structure Deck: Pendulum Domination release in January, while the recent success of Gadgets and the anticipation for Structure Deck: Seto Kaiba and ABC-Dragon Buster boosted interest in Gear Gigant X.

That's it for this week! How will continued Regional responses play out? Will the Juunishishi hype train keep on rolling? Join us Friday to find out, in our next Market Watch.
