Welcome to another Market Watch!

Every four days we count down the Top 10 bestselling singles in the TCGplayer marketplace and tell you which cards sold the most copies, regardless of rarity. It's an awesome way to get a snapshot of competitive trends and player reactions to both tournament results, and upcoming releases. Price spikes are one thing, but they often fail to materialize for commons, rares, or even older foils that are just flying under the radar. If you go by sheer sales numbers instead, suddenly you get a ton of data that's invisible otherwise.

Last Friday we saw the immediate impact of the new Juunishishi theme from Raging Tempest, as cards like Coach King Giantrainer and Fire Formation Tenki exploded in demand. D/D/D's and Paleozoics held strong as well. Four days later on Monday the Junishishi hype was still in effect as Coach Captain Bearman rocketed to the Number 1 spot, but the countdown was split amongst big winners from the returning Regional Qualifier competitions that weekend: Metalfoes, Performapals, Gadgets, and Blue-Eyes White Dragon all left their mark, while D/D/D's hung in.

Enthusiasm for the Juunishishis slowed this week, and the bulk of our Top 10 today was influenced by four factors: Regional Top 8's from the past weekend; Blue-Eyes reprints from Legendary Decks 2; previews of upcoming cards in the OCG; and World Premiere reveals from the upcoming Invasion: Vengeance.

#10: Revolving Switchyard

The Level 10 Train theme's cultivated a rabid fanbase, partly because the cards are fun, and partly because they've become one of the Yugiverse's most beloved memes. While Train cards faded from their regular Market Watch appearances in the wake of Dragons of Legend: Unleashed, Revolving Switchyard made a return appearance this week, likely thanks to the recent reveal of Heavy-Armored Train Iron Wolf in Raging Tempest.

You can send 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard; add 1 Level 10 EARTH Machine-Type monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use 1 "Revolving Switchyard" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

#9: Majespecter Fox - Kyubi

Dedicated Majespecter decks put in huge numbers in Regional Qualifiers over the weekend, scoring multiple logged Top 8's everywhere from Oklahoma to Belgium.

Wihle Majespecter Metalfoes leverage Majespecter Raccoon Bunbuku and Majespecter Unicorn Kirin almost exclusively, new breeds of Pure Majespecters, Demise Majespecters, and Odd-Eyes Majespecter variants have been tearing up competition this format since the second week Regional Qualifiers, and the theme shows no signs of slowing down despite the rising popularity of counters like Pendulum Hole.

#8: Magnet Reverse

Magnet Reverse was the Number 2 most-sold card in the TCGplayer marketplace last week, and after dropping from the Top 10 entirely last weekend, it's back at Number 8 today. Again, this one's a bit of a mystery; is this purely anticipation for ABC-Dragon Buster? That would be a bit weird, because while ABC-Dragon's definitely the most high-profile card Magnet Reverse works with, the card's not played in successful builds overseas right now. Virtually at all.

That leaves a list of potential causes like Gem-Knights, Ancient Gears, Crystrons, and a few other candidates that just don't seem to justify the card's popularity. If you can solve the mystery, drop me a note in the comments.

#7: Gold Gadget

Structure Deck: Seto Kaiba looms close, set to bring Gold Gadget and Silver Gadget into the everyday tournament mainstream. At the same time, a Gadget build packing Brilliant Fusion and The Blazing Mars made Top 32 at YCS Mexico. Both factors likely played a role in launching Gold Gadget into the Number 7 position this week.

#6: Overworked

Several cards are boosting stats across the board right now in fringe tech roles, but this may be another leftover from the Juunishishi hype last week: since the Juunishishi deck leverages Fire Formation Tenki to search all of its Beast-Warriors, Overworked could offer an opportunity to break up those big Juunishishi combos and leave your opponent with no clear path forward. Preemptive buy or current tech? Tough to say.

#5: Return of the Dragon Lords

Blue-Eyes White Dragon is still the hottest deck of the format, and with the new Legendary Decks 2 collection making it so much easier to build, Return was a big pick this week as players looked to fill in the gaps between that release and the reprints in the 2016 Mega-Tins. That largely meant Return of the Dragon Lords, and our Number 3 pick further up the charts.

#4: Paleozoic Anomalocaris

Patrick Joyce scored a big win with Paleozoics in the Norwich England Regional Qualifier last weekend, and while Paleozoics were already popular for their potential with the upcoming Treatoad, Joyce managed to shred his opponents without the deck's key win condition.

That sparked an even hotter fever for Paleozoics, which meant an upward Price Trend for the deck's three-of Super Rare boss monster.

#3: Sage with Eyes of Blue

While Legendary Decks II reprinted Dragon Spirit of White, The White Stone of Legend, The White Stone of Ancients, Master with Eyes of Blue, and The Melody of Awakening Dragon, it left out Sage with Eyes of Blue. The 2016 Mega-Tins and Legendary Decks II make it much easier to build a Blue-Eyes deck, and that meant a whole lot of players and speculators were snapping up copies of Sage.

#1: SPYRAL Super Agent

And finally, SPYRAL Super Agent exploded in demand and price, for two very different reasons. First and foremost, ferver for the SPYRAL theme was bolstered by the reveal of two of the four new SPYRAL cards headed our way in Invasion: Vengeance. Those were Charming Resort Staff and SPYRAL Master Plan, both of which proved to be impressive cards offering strong card economy, which could go a long way to fleshing out the SPYRAL theme.

On top of the hype off those reveals, we also saw a new trend emerging where players are splashing SPYRAL Super Agent into completely unrelated decks. Daniel Scott played a Kaiju Cyber Dragon deck to a Top 8 finish at the Tulsa Regional Qualifier, running Super Agent strictly as a free Level 4 Special Summon on a fifty-fifty coin toss, that nets you a free +1 by eliminating a backrow card.

In a format where some decks are playing lots of traps, and some decks are running none at all, simple removal like Mystical Space Typhoon and Twin Twisters can be complicating. But SPYRAL Super Agent is a 1900 ATK Level 4 at worst; its effect may have a break-even chance to fail, but its utility always meets a certain baseline, and that free plus can be a game-winning force.

Further down the sales charts several partnered cards complimented those in the Top 10: Silver Gadget, Ruffian Railcar, and Blackwing - Gofu the Vague Shadow all road on the coattails of the Gadget, Train, and Metalfoes hype. Meanwhile Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit remains highly popular as Mixed Pendulums and Majespecter Metalfoes remain strong, and one of the biggest surprises of the format Void Imagination rounded out the Top 25.

Void Imagination elevated at least two Infernoid players to Top 8 finishes last weekend, in Brooklyn and in Tulsa. It's an amazing card in a format where nearly every strategy fields something from their Extra Deck, often on Turn 1. It's an incredible choice against Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Burning Abyss and Phantom Knight variants, and Metalfoes, and that's brought Infernoids back into the competitive arena.

That's it for this week, but join us on Monday when we'll see the fallout from more Regional Qualifiers, and the biggest hits from Legendary Decks II!
