Welcome, to another installment of our twice-weekly Market Watch column! Every four days we look at which cards have sold the most copies in the TCGplayer marketplace, aggregating sales from over 1000 active Yu-Gi-Oh! sellers to hone in on tournament trends, player responses to upcoming releases, and reactions to new cards.

By looking at the sheer number of cards sold instead of individual price spikes, we can often derive information about the popularity of themes and tech choices moving forward, and see investment opportunities as they're approaching. This week there was some static in the data as we saw huge niche purchases of competitive and casual fan cards from Legendary Decks II, but there were still plenty of notable cards that demonstrate notable directions for competition.

It's going to take a little while for the secondary market to shake out in the wake of both Legendary Decks II, and the release of ABC-Dragon Buster in Structure Deck: Seto Kaiba. But cleaving through the noise this week, there's definitely some useful info here, and some of the patterns and big cards will only get bigger in coming weeks.

That said, let's start with one that might be on the way out.

#10: Magnet Reverse

Magnet Reverse can Special Summon ABC-Dragon Buster, which appears to be the reason it's hopped on and off the Market Watch Top 10 several times over the past few weeks. Why it's been so popular is a bit of a mystery: it's never seen much play with ABC's in Japan's OCG, but it's put in tremendous numbers since its release here stateside.

Will it see play? Deck lists are only beginning to emerge for the newly-released ABC-Dragon Buster, but we'll see this week if the investment paid off for players that picked this thing up. I don't think it'll work out much, but we've seen some big deviations from OCG predecents lately, especially in Metalfoes, so it's definitely possible.

#9: ABC-Dragon Buster

Speak of the devil, ABC-Dragon Buster was huge this weekend in Regionals, and while lots of players picked up Structure Deck: Seto Kaiba a lot went the singles route, snagging Dragon Buster and its supporting cast individually instead. No surprise there – it's one of the most hotly anticipated cards of the year, and it had an immediate impact dominating Regional Qualifiers this past weekend.

The depth of the damage can't be evaluated just yet, but ABC-Dragon Buster could become the most dominant strategy we've seen since Nekroz. Keep an eye on the deck archive this week as we get a better picture of what each Top 8 looked like in the weekend's Regionals.

#8: Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon

Last week's fan-driven Number 1 pick dropped to Number 8 over the weekend, as decks like Mermails and D/D/D's continued to drive demand for the powerful Rank 7. While Flare Metal Dragon's a one-of in almost any deck that runs it, it's effectively a must-own, and its newly-lowered price point thank to its Legendary Decks II reprinting has made it vastly more accessible.

#7: Dark Magician

Yugi fans and Jeff Jones fans united over the weekend to snap up tons of Dark Magicians, fresh off Jones' near-miss showing with the deck at YCS Minneapolis. While Dark Magician was regarded as nothing but a casual pick heading into that tournament, Jones created a reactive strategy that focused on making actions on the opponent's turn, and nearly made the Top 32 for his troubles, just missing out on a fluke of tiebreakers and landing at 34th place.

So close.

#6: Moon Mirror Shield

Moon Mirror Shield's been all over the place the past couple weeks, and put in Top 8 showings in Majespecters and Anti-Meta builds just last weekend alone. Nick Fiscella ran it in his Demise Majespecters at the New Jersey Regional; Matthew Aube topped with it in Brethren Majespecters in Montreal; and Benny Manns played it in his Barrier Statue deck at the Regional in Gosford Australia. Looking back a little further we even saw it in decks like Patrick Joyce's Paleozoics, from that Top 8 a couple weeks ago in Norwich England.

The ability to wall up and stop virtually anything in battle is a big deal for strategies revolving around smaller monsters, and while we've seen a handful of strategies play Moon Mirror Shield in the past, it's never been bigger than it is now. It's particularly good against ABC-Dragon Buster, so it's no surprise that it made the Top 10 over the weekend.

#5: Mirror Force

Down from its Number 4 spot on Friday, Mirror Force is still hanging tight in the Top 10 as one part fan-favorite throwback and one part legitimate resurgent force. It hasn't seen much Top Cut play lately, but it's been creeping back into competition, especially with the rise of Anti-Meta decks.

#4: The Winged Dragon of Ra

Pure fanservice on this one: the 2016 Mega-Tins and Legendary Decks II have brought a lot of oldschool Yu-Gi-Oh! fans back into the fold, and with Obelisk the Tormentor and Slifer the Sky Dragon easily found in their respective tins, The Winged Dragon of Ra's been a popular reprint.

#3: King of the Swamp

Like Mirror Force, King of the Swamp's a popular oldschool card with a lot of fan recognition, but also reasonably important for tournament play… or at least it will be in the future, especially when the new Fluffal support arrives.

Previously a $5+ card, King of the Swamp's reprint in Legendary Decks II has made it much more accessible, and that led a ton of players to pick up their copies over the weekend.

#1: Pot of Duality

And finally, the creeping ubiquity of Pot of Duality in a number of different decks made it a hot pick for a lot of buyers, including speculators that snapped the card up in droves. While eleven previous printings meant that Pot of Duality wasn't a particularly pricy card to begin with, its topselling status was once again bolstered by its reprint in Legendary Decks II. People were buying this thing by the fistful.

That's it for this week, but as Regional Qualifier results roll in from the past weekend, we can expect to see some big shifts in the marketplace by Friday. ABC-Dragon Buster clearly delivered in the latest round of Regionals, but now it's a matter of figuring out just how dominant the strategy was. As those details become apparent the next few days, we can expect to see market forces shift accordingly.
