Welcome to another Friday edition of Market Watch!

Invasion: Vengeance arrived for presale in the TCGplayer Marketplace on Thursday, just in time for our Friday cutoff. And while that timeframe was short and initial stock was low, we did see those presales making an impact on the TCGplayer marketplace. By Monday we'll likely have a Top 10 dominated by the new set, but for now, we can observe the final repercussions from last weekend's YCS Liverpool.

As always, our Top 10 is based entirely on sales volume, not rarity or card price. That gives us the opportunity to see a wide array of market patterns that can often indicate shifts in tournament trends, and player reactions to upcoming releases and news from overseas in the Asian OCG. Here's the rundown of the biggest movers and shakers in the TCGplayer marketplace, from Monday to Friday morning.

#10: The White Stone of Ancients

Dropping from its sudden surge to Number 1 last weekend, The White Stone of Ancients held onto the Top 10 by the skin of its… stony fingers? Something like that.

With only one seat in the Top 32 at YCS Liverpool, the future of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon deck is certainly up for debate, and since there were no Regional Qualifiers last weekend, the next two days of Regional will largely determine the deck's future in the TCG. But it looks as if a lot of players were still bullish on the strategy this week, with The White Stone of Ancients selling in big numbers.

#9: Nine Pillars of Yang Zing

The first Invasion: Vengeance card to make it to the Top 32, Nine Pillars of Yang Zing managed to make the cut despite the fact that all recorded sales for INOV accounted for here were pre-sales. On top of that, pre-sales didn't appear until Wednesday here on TCGplayer, and when they did, savvy vendors were only beginning to list cards in small quantities.

Nine Pillars was in perfect position under those circumstances: as a hotly-awaited card for a fan favorite theme, demand was there; and as a Rare, it was stocked in sufficient numbers to see big sales. Flashier cards like Dimension Barrier and Toadally Awesome failed to chart simply because there weren't enough listed.

Meanwhile, the sheer enthusiasm for Nine Pillars of Yang Zing suggests that Yang Zings may see play this weekend in Regionals. Keep an eye out for that in the Deck Archive once we start logging the next round of Top 8 decks.

#8: Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon

Even with Blue-Eyes White Dragon flagging in tournaments, Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon remained a popular pick for both Blue-Eyes players, and competitors looking to run Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries to beat it. Ghost Reaper's more popular now than it has been in weeks, thanks to the threat of ABC-Dragon Buster. That's put more Ghost Reapers into more decks, and a lot of players running it see a single Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon as a no-brainer addition if they're already playing the spiteful hand trap.

#7: Number 103: Ragnazero

I have no idea. Is the sudden upswing in sales for Number 103: Ragnazero a delayed response to the advent of the Zodiac Beasts? We've seen a lot of ATK boosting cards lately, namely Number 80: Rhapsody in Berserk, Moon Mirror Shield, and Phantom Knights' Sword, but there are largely better answers than Ragnazero for those threats. Majesty's Pegasus? None of those ideas seem like strong enough reasons for Ragnazero to see a big spike in demand.

Shout it out in the Comments if you've got some theories yourself.

#6: Blackwing - Gofu the Vague Shadow

Metalfoes continue to be competitive, and they get a sizable boost from new cards in Invasion: Vengeance. At the same time we've also seen Gofu popping up elsewhere, even in Mermail decks, so this is likely a combination of a few different factors.

#5: Magician's Rod

Dark Magician decks are slowly creeping into an outsider rogue position in Regional-level competition, and while we've seen some variety between different builds, Magician's Rod is a must in all of them. Searching you a wealth of cards including the all-important Eternal Soul, the Rod's a big part of the “doing stuff on your opponent's turn” strategy that's made a handful of Dark Magician builds so successful.

Magician's Rod is also a huge fan-favorite, and has appeared in Market Watches before entirely on its oldschool cache, let alone actual tournament potential. This is one part legitimate tournament hype, and one part healthy fan service from fans of the Pharaoh's signature monster.

#4: Metalfoes Goldriver

The new Fullmetalfoes Fusion, Fullmetalfoes Alkahest, Metalfoes Mithrilium, and Raremetalfoes Bismugear are all worth playing, and that, combined with continued tournament success, made Metalfoes a big pick this week.

Metalfoes Goldriver caught the brunt of it for some reason, with the other Metalfoes Pendulums seeing nowhere near the same level of sales. But taken with Gofu's high sales the uptrend seems pretty clear; expect to see Metalfoes with renewed tournament presence in the wake of Invasion.

#3: Mirror of the Ice Barrier

The number one deck-to-beat right now is led by a monster with a killer banishing effect, and at the same time we're seeing more Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier in a variety of strategies thanks to the rising popularity of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Effect Veiler, and Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries.

With Burning Phantom Knights winning YCS Liverpool, in part on the strength of Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Mirror of the Ice Barrier became a huge pick across several match-ups this week, and the sales numbers bear that out.

#2: ABC-Dragon Buster

No surprise here, as the boss monster for the number one deck in the format took the Number 2 position coming off YCS Liverpool, where it took 14 seats in the Top 32. The real surprise here is that A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern are nowhere to be found, indicating this might be more about collectors and speculators looking to stock up in anticipation of a sellout on Structure Deck: Seto Kaiba.

At this point there's no doubt about the popularity of the ABC deck, but the strong sales here may say more about speculators and vendors than the tournament scene.

#1: Secret Village of the Spellcasters

And on that note, the highest-selling card from over a thousand active Yu-Gi-Oh! sellers in the TCGplayer marketplace this week was Secret Village of the Spellcasters! Majespecters were hugely underrepresented in the Top Cut at YCS Liverpool, but the deck remains popular stateside after the release of Ties of the Brethren.

Secret Village is phenomenal in that version of the deck, blocking a mix of basic splashable cards like Twin Twisters and Pot of Desires as well as theme-specific staples like Union Hangar, The Melody of Awakening Dragon, and opposing Pendulum Spells. When you're opening with three Spellcasters on the field instead of just one, Secret Village of the Spellcasters can be virtually impossible to play through.

It's unclear what catapulted Secret Village into first place this week, but the push factors are all pretty easy to appreciate taken together. If Majespecters are going to make a comeback off the lackluster YCS showing, this card will be a big part of it.

What else was big? Not much! We saw a lot of scattered trends from niche buyer groups, but the two big standouts that saw lots of action just beneath the Top 10 were Red-Eyes Insight and Cattle Call. There was lots of interest in The Black Stone of Legend since its reprint in Legendary Decks II , and Red-Eyes Insight is positioned in much the same way as Nine Pillars of Yang Zing. It's not surprising that it sold so well in pre-sales.

Cattle Call's a little more interesting since it's played in both Lunalights and Raidraptors, the latter having recently Top 8'd. Chris Hairston played two copies in his Top Cut build at the Knoxville Regional two weeks ago, and his success might be responsible for the rekindled interest.

Join us again on Monday, when we see the whole-hog fallout from the Invasion: Vengeance release! We'll see what the biggest sellers are from the new set in very clear-cut terms, as well as the impact of a fresh round of Regionals, when we look at the numbers from the weekend.

See you then!
