We're back! With another Monday Market Watch, and this time we're looking at reactions to Invasion: Vengance, coming off the set's full release and first Regional weekend. Top 8 results are still pouring in from Regional Qualifiers, but early reportings from those tournaments as well as the Top Cut stats from the ARGCS in Atlanta have demonstrated that Frogs, Paleozoics, and especially Metalfoes have emerged as the early winners from INOV.

If this is your first time reading Market Watch, we're count down the Top 10 bestselling cards in the TCGplayer marketplace every four days, to zero in on tournament trends and market responses to upcoming releases. The TCGplayer marketplace isn't a store: it's a gateway to over a thousand active Yu-Gi-Oh! sellers all competing to offer the best deals. So by examining sales from those massive data sets, we can extrapolate a lot of useful info.

Here in Market Watch we don't zero in on high-rarity cards or go by price: just sheer number of cards sold. That helps us give you information you wouldn't have access to on your own, and often demonstrates big shifts in the competitive landscape before they materialize. If you know what everybody's suddenly buying, you can have a better idea what to expect at your next tournament.

Surprising no one, the complete Top 10 from Friday to Monday morning was all Invasion: Vengeance.

#10: Metalfoes Mithrilium

Metalfoes took first and second place at ARGCS Atlanta, and while the Regional Top 8 lists available as of this writing showed no other immediate successes for Metalfoes thus far, the strength of the new Metalfoes cards is self-evident. Raremetalfoes Bismugear seems to be a must-run at three-per-deck; Fullmetalfoes Fusion is a definitive one-of finisher that lends speed and interaction to push through wins; and Fullmetalfoes Alkahest is a field-clearing monstrosity, played as both a singleton and in pairs at the ARGCS.

Meanwhile both ARGCS finalists ran double Metalfoes Mithrilium, again offering more field clearing power as well as a self-replacing ability that gives the deck longevity and some extra oomph. Even with a hefty Market Price of $7.50, Mithrilium was a must-buy in multiples for a ton of TCGplayers.

#9: Meteor Black Comet Dragon

With an instant burn effect, strong ATK, and an ability that offers insurance through self-replacement, Meteor Black Comet Dragon's a great example of how fan-driven cards have really been given better design this past year. Summoned to the field for free with Red-Eyes Fusion, you can set up plays with Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and Lightpulsar Dragon to adopt some Chaos Dragon techniques, and immediately make an impact on both the field and your opponent's Life Points.

In a vacuum, Meteor Black Comet Dragon is a good card. In practice, it suffers from being part of a theme that's still just awkward enough to struggle against more streamlined competitive strategies. But for locals and larger Regionals, there's definitely a deck here that could hold its own, and even get you an invite to your WCQ with enough qualifying finishers.

The Red-Eyes strategy has arrived, and while it's not quite up there with Blue-Eyes White Dragon, the deck's definitely worthy of some attention. That made new Red-Eyes cards a giant draw over the weekend, even at a Market Price of nearly $4.50 like Comet Dragon. This was an easy prediction to make given the strong sales we saw from The Black Stone of Legend in recent weeks.

#8: Paleozoic Marrella

Paleozoics have already logged some success from the weekend, with more likely to follow: Alfie Danklefsen is our first example of a Top 8 showing, making the cut at the Kansas Regional Qualifier with a Paleozoic Frog build. His build played two copies of Paleozoic Marrella, the graveyard-filling Paleozoic that helps establish infrastructure, demonstrating it as a valuable part of the strategy. It was played in OCG builds, so it's no surprise people snapped up their copies here.

#7: Fullmetalfoes Fusion

Despite largely being a one-of in competitive Metalfoes decks, Fullmetalfoes Fusion still managed to capture the Number 7 spot as players stocked up on the new must-run finisher. Using monsters from your field as Fusion Material isn't a problem for the Pendulum-oriented Metalfoes, and Fullmetalfoes Fusion's Spell Speed of 2 means Metalfoes can now put more damage on the table than ever before, all in a single turn.

#6: Meteor Dragon Red-Eyes Impact

One of the alternatives to Light Pulsar Dragon for Red-Eyes Fusion into Meteor Black Comet Dragon, Meteor Dragon Red-Eyes Impact is a solid monster that offers a decent protection effect. Sadly it's surrounded by largely better cards, so it seems like a bit of a toss-up at best. Regardless, fan favor carried it to Number 6.

#5: Paleozoic Opabinia

Another two-of in that Top 8 Paleozoic Frog deck, Paleozoic Opabinia's been a common sight in OCG Paleozoic builds for weeks, searching your Paleozoics while speeding up their activations by letting you play them from your hand.

The Paleozoic strategy's all about keeping your opponent off balance, and Opabinia adds another layer of consistency and disruption. As a 40-cent Super Rare it's still highly affordable due to the scarcity of Toadally Awesome, so it was a popular pick for the weekend.

#4: Raremetalfoes Bismugear

Raremetalfoes Bismugear is an impressive search card that brings even more precision to the Metalfoes deck: while its Pendulum Effect searches Metalfoes spell and trap cards like the previous monsters in the theme, its Monster Effect searches monster cards. And cuing off monsters like Performage Plushfire and Guiding Ariadne, you'll trigger that search when you destroy Bismugear even if it was played as a Pendulum Spell and gets destroyed from the Pendulum Zone.

That's balanced by the fact that the search is delayed until your End Phase, but it's really only reasonable. Bismugear's still a wildly powerful card that will likely be a three-of staple in Metalfoes moving forward.

#3: Red-Eyes Insight

Surprising no one, easy access to Red-Eyes Fusion held massive appeal for shoppers this weekend. Red-Eyes Insight almost made it into Friday's Top 10 after about a day and a half of under-stocked presales alone, and the promise of easy Fusion Summons and a loaded graveyard put it straight to Number 3.

#2: Paleozoic Dinomischus

A must-run in every Paleozoic deck in both the OCG, and the new emerging TCG lists, Paleozoic Dinomischus is an on-theme Karma Cut in a deck that can play that it virtually for free, loading the graveyard for more Special Summons. As a common it outpaced Paleozoic Opabinia and Paleozoic Marrell as a three-of that could be had for under 20 cents. No mysteries here: it's a topnotch card for what's effectively a new deck, and it's super affordable. That meant big demand.

#1: Pot of Acquisitiveness

And finally, one of the biggest tournament-level difference-makers from Invasion of Vengeance took the Number 1 spot for the weekend with authority: Pot of Acquisitiveness.

With ABC's and Burning Phantom Knights leading competition, Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries is everywhere. It's become a common Main Deck pick to stop ABC-Dragon Buster and Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, and the mere possibility of its appearance can determine the shape of a game. Now it's far less of a sure thing: a successful Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries is easily rebuked with Pot of Acquisitiveness, and it happens for free thanks to its draw effect.

On top of that ease of use, Pot of Acquisitiveness still holds utility in the decks it protects even if Ghost Reaper never emerges. ABC-Dragon Buster's Special Summon and the graveyard effects of the Phantom Knights all send cards to the removed zone, making that three-monster threshold easy to hit. From there, Pot of Acquisitiveness just becomes a free cycle to replace itself.

Add in factors like the recent uptick in Traptrix Rafflesia and Bottomless Trap Hole, plus threats like Macro Cosmos and Masked HERO Dark Law, and Pot of Acquisitiveness just makes too much sense to ignore.

What cards nearly made the Top 10? SPYRAL Resort, SPYRAL Master Plan, and SPYRAL MISSION Assault clocked in at Number 11, Number 13, and Number 15, indicating a healthy level of interest in the new SPYRAL cards. Crystrons scored with Crystron Citree in at Number 12, while Dimensional Barrier came in at Number 18 huge for a card with a Market Price of over $60.

Dimensional Barrier appeared in a ton of Regional Top 8 decks this week, and a lot of Top Cut finishers remarked that while it didn't always resolve, they'd win the game instantly when it did. Stay tuned this week because Kelly Locke's going to go in-depth on that card tomorrow.

What will the week hold?! We'll find out on Friday, when we return with our next Market Watch. Join us then to see how the Top 10 shakes out over the next four days.
