Welcome to the first Market Watch of the Maximum Crisis era!

For weeks we've been waiting to see which cards from the new set would get the most traction right out of the gates, and today we have the answer! A mix of rogue choices, new tournament staples, and key cards for core themes took center stage over the weekend. Remember, our Top 10 countdowns are based solely on volume of cards sold – not rarity or price – so this is a great chance to see which cards are going to be in the hands of the most players moving into the WCQ season.

With no further ado, here were the biggest sellers in the TCGplayer Marketplace from Friday to Monday morning.

#10: Magician's Right Hand

Acting as a sort of floodgate against spell cards, Magician's Right Hand has been a notable prospect ever since it was first revealed in the OCG back in November. The ability to deter your opponent from using spell cards is tremendous in a format where some of the biggest matchups are ruled by spell-driven combos, and the chance to make plusses of card economy when your opponent needs to play through your Right Hand is huge too.

At the end of the day, the limiting factor here is the need for a Spellcaster monster. Very few Spellcasters are seeing any kind of consistent Main Deck use right now, and that makes Magician's Right Hand the most surprising entry into the Top 10 this week. The card has potential, but it seems like a poor fit for current competition.

Players may be picking up copies now solely in anticipation of the new Magician cards in Pendulum Evolution, but that set doesn't drop for another month and a half. Will Right Hand see play? We'll have to wait and find out.

#9: Prologue of the Destruction Swordsman

As much as Prologue might seem like an even more surprising pick for big sales this weekend, it actually Top 8'd a small Regional Qualifier in the Netherlands in a Predaplant Kaiju Yang Zing Buster Blader deck that garnered a lot of attention solely because it was one of the first post-MACR Regional successes we saw. Wail Aalouch ran a full three copies of Prologue, unleashing Buster Dragon, setting up Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman, and protecting his established fields.

While it's unlikely we'll see more crazy Buster Blader mashups topping Regionals any time soon, and that Netherlands Qualifier was exceedingly small to begin with, that one Top 8 was enough to capture the imaginations of tons of duelists, even if only for the weekend.

#8: Set Rotation

Now we're getting to the creamy competitive filling.

Set Rotation may wind up as the defining card of the WCQ season, and it's almost surprising to see it as low as Number 8. Searching Field Spells like Kozmotown, Union Hangar, and Dragonic Diagram, Set Rotation is huge in the OCG for its ability to set up your plays while locking your opponent out of theirs. The trick is to stick your opponent with something like Oracle of Zefra or Gateway to Chaos – spells they can't flip unless they can search matching cards from their deck. If your opponent doesn't have something to search they effectively just lose their Field Spell Zone.

Alexander Garven mained three copies to search Dragonic Diagram in his True King Dinosaur deck at the Glasgow Regional, while Calvin Tahan won the San Diego qualifier running three Rotations in a 60-card version of Brilliant Kaiju ABC-Dragon Buster. Both players ran Gateway to Chaos, knowing their opponents couldn't search a Black Luster Soldier or Gaia The Fierce Knight, and Tahan even played an Empowerment to better leverage Set Rotation's search power.

Expect to see Set Rotation in your tournaments over the coming weeks, and here in Market Watch in the Top 10.

#7: Sylvan Princessprite

Originally an OCG exclusive in the Japanese version of Dimension of Chaos, Sylvan Princessprite has been on a lot of players' most-wanted lists since mid-2015. Now that it's finally here it doesn't really have much of a place in competition; there aren't a ton of Level 1's floating around, and the only decks running it in the OCG right now are a handful of rogue Blue-Eyes White Dragon builds.

But that said, we may see some more combo-oriented decks this summer here in the TCG, and those strategies often pack enough Level 1's to make Rank 1 monsters viable. Princessprite has by far the highest ATK of any Rank 1 Xyz, and its excavate effect alone probably makes it the go-to choice for any strategy that can make Rank 1's. While its secondary effect is much more specific, even something as simple as a used Alsei, the Sylvan High Protector can create valuable synergy.

I'd be surprised if we see Sylvan Princessprite in upcoming tournaments, but it's effectively a must-own for its status as the best Rank 1 in the game, and picking it up now while it's still under 50 cents was clearly an attractive proposition this past weekend.

#6: True King of All Calamities

THE CHAMP – IS – HEEEEEEYAAAR! True King of All Calamities is one of the most impressive boss monsters we've seen in a while; a perfect fit for True King and True Draco decks, but also splashable in anything that can run a couple True Kings and make Denglong, First of the Yang Zing, it's going to be everywhere people can fit it. It's an incredible Turn 1 play against attribute-specific strategies, and combined with other negation-driven monsters like Evolzar Laggia and Evolzar Dolkka, it's the root of some of the summer's biggest opening plays.

Easy to summon and devastating once it's on the field, True King of All Calamities is going to shape competition in a number of ways, forcing players to build their decks to beat it. Kaijus, Raigeki, Dark Hole, and a variety of other answers are going to become Main Deck priorities almost entirely because this thing exists. If you don't have a plan to handle it you can prepare to get blown out, and that level of threat made it a huge hit this weekend.

#5: Subterror Final Battle

Subterrors were huge over the weekend, coming into the release of Maximum Crisis with a ton of hype that was rooted in this card and the next in our Top 10 countdown. Subterror Final Battle basically just does everything Subterrors haven't been allowed to do up until now, kicking the strategy into Overdrive by giving you full control over the positions of your monsters. That means easier effect triggers, better battles, and a board that's far tougher to break.

Add in a niche trick to keep your monster abilities from being negated and a crazy stat-boosting effect that turns virtually any of your Subterrors into game-ending finishers, and you've got the makings of a revival for a has-been strategy that never really was in the first place. The potential is tremendous, players are excited, and that drove Subterror Final Battle to become one of the bestselling cards of the weekend.

And even better…

#4: Subterror Fiendess

…Subterror Fiendess took the Number 4 spot! An absolutely nuts hand trap for the Subterror theme, Fiendess negates a ridiculous range of cards and effects while reloading your Subterror flips and positioning them in turtle mode. There's a ton of game-shaping monster effects flying around right now, and having such a flexible answer to them is outstanding – especially one that can advance your position in the game in the process.

Roll in an on-field ability that can become a renewable source of free plusses and immediate board presence, and you've got a crazy card that works extremely well with Subterror Final Battle to patch up all the holes in the Subterror strategy.

It's not often we see an eleventh-hour Rebound like this for a long-standing strategy, but Subterrors really could have potential in a rogue position this format. We haven't seen any successful Regional lists yet, but next weekend is a big one for tournament play with Regionals and YCS Pittsburgh, so there's still plenty of time to see some Subterror action.

#3: Unending Nightmare

Know what DID see major tournament success this weekend?! Unending Nightmare.

Nobody expected Unending Nightmare to be bad, but few expected it to be as good as it turned out to be. It's awesome against True Draco Zoodiacs hitting stuff like Fire Formation – Tenki, Zoodiac Barrage, or Dragonic Diagram; it demolishes Pendulum decks, which is relevant since Metalfoes are persisting in competition; and if you're running Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King yourself, it gets extra utility as tribute fodder in a pinch.

We've already seen it top in Zombies, Metalfoes, and True Draco Zoodiacs. It's just an amazing card that's likely to become a Side Deck staple at least for True Draco Zoodiacs, possibly for a range of strategies.

#1: Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio

Searchable with Lonefire Blossom, and triggering its effect when Normal Summoned or Special Summoned, Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio can send any monster from your hand to the graveyard to Special Summon Predaplant Darlingtonia Cobra. When you do, Cobra's effect will let you search your deck for a “Polymerization” or “Fusion” spell card. That means Fusion Substitute, Instant Fusion, or even Brilliant Fusion, easily searching some of the most powerful combo starters in the game.

Since Cobra and Scorpio are both Level 3's they function a lot like Tour Guide From the Underworld or Speedroid Terrortop and Speedroid Taketomborg, offering more bang for a little more buck in terms of card economy. Just a few days into post-MACR competition we're already seeing this engine top Regionals, and in some really wacky decks to boot. We're only going to see more of it as players learn about what it can do.

Other notable cards over the weekend? Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter nearly missed the Top 10 at Number 11, suggesting we may see more True Draco-heavy strategies moving forward, instead of decks focused entirely on Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King. Subterror Behemoth Phospheroglacier and Subterror Behemoth Speleogeist took Number 12 and Number 15, despite being nowhere as powerful as the other new Subterror cards. There was just an absolute ton of interest in the theme.

Tornado Dragon clocked in at Number 16 despite its notable price point as a new staple-status Secret Rare; Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King took Number 19; and the new SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort and SPYRAL MISSION – Rescue came in at Numbers 17 and 22. Interesting to see the Subterror cards bowl over the SPYRAL stuff so thoroughly in the sales rankings.

That's it for now, but join us Friday when we look at new developments through the week, right here on TCGplayer!
