Welcome to another post-Battles of Legend Market Watch!

The competitive season's over, and with the North American World Championship Qualifier now a week in the past and Top Cut decks logged, players have been digesting the results. Regionals for the 2018 WCQ don't pick up until August 19th, so the five-week lull is giving players time to mull over their thoughts in the wake of the biggest tournament of the year.

On Monday we saw the immediate fallout of the WCQ and Battles of Legend. Lightsworn was huge coming off the reprint of key cards like Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn, and Zach Butler's Top 32 finish captivating a global audience. The impending release of Twilightsworn was likely a factor too. Reprints of once-pricy cards like Anti-Spell Fragrance, Denko Sekka, and PSY-Framelord Omega sold by the bushel, and reprints of forward-thinking cards like Transmodify and Galaxy Soldier did really well too. Meanwhile, Giant Rex led the pack as the bestselling card of the weekend, having taken the Number 2 spot the Friday before.

The Monday to Friday sales period was similar, as results from the WCQ spread and some of the fresh hype settled down. Demand for Lightsworn cards was still strong, but with Kelly Locke's in-depth writing on the Time Lords last week, demand for the most-wanted Time Lord cards rocketed them straight into the Top 10. The best reprints from Battles of Legend still moved massive numbers too, but there was a bit of a shakeup in their placements, and Giant Rex took a bit of a slip to make room for a new Number 1.

So what were the Top 10 bestselling cards in the TCGplayer Marketplace this week? Let's count ‘em down.

#10: Time Maiden

A new entry to the Top 10, Time Maiden does virtually everything you could ask to make the Time Lords more viable. Got the Time Lord you want? Special Summon Time Maiden if you control no other monsters, then Tribute it off: it counts as two Tributes for a Time Lord monster, dumping itself to the graveyard for later. Don't have the right Time Lord for the job? Special Summon or Normal Summon Time Maiden, and you can Tribute it to search whichever time Lord you want. If you Special Summoned the Maiden you can immediately Normal Summon whatever you fetch.

You can even banish Time Maiden from your graveyard to Special Summon a Time Lord from your deck, despite the explicit ban Time Lords carry on that sort of Special Summon – that's really what makes this card so good. Kelly described the advantages of Side Decking Time Lord cards last week, and Time Maiden's an integral enabler that gives speed and consistency, as well as more choice if you play different Time Lords for different situations.

We'll see more from the Time Lords later on in the countdown.

#9: PSY-Framelord Omega

Down from Number 7 last week, PSY-Framelord Omega remains one of the most feared Synchros in the game, played in multiples for defensive combos and its ability to shred your opponent's hand. Still available for about six dollars in its reprinted form, it's never been anywhere near this affordable in the past and lots of players are picking up their copies in response.

While decks like Dark Synchro and other hand loop strategies have largely fallen off the competitive radar, Omega's an important card in Zombie Lightsworn variants, and it's seen more play over the past two months as an add-on to the PSY-Framegear Gamma and PSY-Framegear Epsilon suites that players are Side Decking. It's a great card to own a playset of, and it's probably never going to be cheaper than it is now.

#8: Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn

Speaking of the Zombie Lightsworn strategy, Lightsworn held onto two spots in the Top 10 over the course of the week, with Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn being the first. Solid ATK, two great milling effects, and Level 4 Tuner status have always made Raiden a respected card. It's a staple in pretty much any Lightsworn variant, it's especially relevant today, and it's one of the factors that make PSY-Framelord Omega so accessible.

#7: Into The Void

Up six spots from Number 13 on Monday, Into The Void is a combo-driven draw card for when you value consistency over keeping your hand. It plays by the same philosophy as Card of Demise, and we've seen it factor into strategies like Infernities in the past, where all you cared about was setting up an unbreakable board on Turn 1.

The sudden surge of popularity may have alot to do with the impending arrival of Link Summoning, and a ton of potentially overpowered combos that come with it. That said, it was previously a $22 card that's now available for $2.50 thanks to the BLLR reprint, so the value's definitely a big factor.

#6: Galaxy Soldier

Sticking the Number 6 spot two Market Watches in a row, Galaxy Soldier is still moving big numbers even as Transmodify disappears from the salescharts. One of the best Ran 5 enablers in the game, Battles of Legend brought its price point crashing down into casual and budget territory, and players are eating it up.

#5: Denko Sekka

Slightly down from Number 4, Denko Sekka's still hanging tight as one of the most popular cards from the BLLR release. Trap cards became more of a defining point of the format in its late stages, as Solemn Strike continued to be near-staple and Dimensional Barrier became more and more common once again in the Main Deck.

That trend may continue through the release of the Link Strike Starter Deck and Code of the Duelist, and regardless, Denko Sekka's never been a bad card even in its off-seasons. Singlehandedly putting Paleozoics out of business, Denko's proven to be a format-shaping card, and now that it's more affordable the demand's easy to understand.

#4: Number 11: Big Eye

New to the Top 10, the sudden push for Number 11: Big Eye's a bit of a head scratcher. You can play it in True King Dinosaurs, which are obviously a big point of interest for many players given the sustained demand for Giant Rex. And it can work in Pendulum Magicians too, if you're playing Astrograph Sorcerer.

But is that really enough to spike Number 11: Big Eye to the Number 4 position? I feel like we're missing something here. Shout it out in the comments if you know what's up, or have a theory of your own.

#3: Anti-Spell Fragrance

With a new Number 1 coming out of nowhere, the top two cards from Monday just slid down the charts one spot. That landed the near-ubiquitous Anti-Spell Fragrance at Number 3 from Number 2. By now you're probably really familiar with the card, as it's been a Side Deck staple this year shutting down Pendulums, True Dracos, and more. (It was even the bane of Blue-Eyes White Dragon last year in that deck's prime.)

Fragrance was a pricy pick despite multiple reprints, and Battles of Legend has knocked it down out of the stratosphere to less than two bucks. It's actually on a downward price trend now as more and more copies keep hitting the Marketplace, and if you don't have yours, now's definitely the time to get caught up.

#2: Giant Rex

Giant Rex is still selling like hotcakes a week into the release of BLLR, continuing to suggest big interest in Dinosaurs and a general expectation that the theme won't get hit on the as-of-yet-unannounced but definitely incoming F&L List. Despite some notable success, Dinosaurs never lived up to the tremendous hype surrounding their re-launch in Dinosmasher's Fury. While the True King Dinosaur deck was good, it was just never quite good enough to beat all the craziness going on this format.

But if the deck isn't hit in the next Advanced Format, it stands a great chance to take over competition instantly, with such a well structured strategy, a high power level, strong openings, and a ton of players just standing around thumbing their already-built Dino decks. That's made Giant Rex a crowd favorite, and the momentum's not really slowing down.

#1: Zaphion, the Time Lord

But Giant Rex was knocked out of the top spot this week, by Zaphion, the Time Lord! Addressing every spell and trap card on the field – including Pendulums and Field Spells – Zaphion's remarkable in large part because it eliminates cards without destroying them. That means it won't trigger the effects of Field Spells like Kozmotown, and it won't load your opponent's Pendulum Spells to their Extra Deck.

That last point's really important; investing two cards to build your Pendulum Scale is a big deal, and when you make that kind of commitment you need a sustained payoff. It's not enough right now to make just one Pendulum Summon for that kind of cost, and it certainly won't be enough under the Link Summoning rules. Zaphion creates that situation, robbing the Pendulum mechanic of its growing momentum and element of inevitability.

Meanwhile Zaphion's also just good against big backrows. You're either preempting it with something like Solemn Warning or Solemn Strike, or you're losing all your on-field defenses. With Harpie's Feather Duster long gone from TCG competition with no sign of a return, Zaphion's a really appealing card both now, and in the future. It's riding an upwards price trend and pushing the $3 mark as of this writing.

That's the Top 10, but let's look a little further down the list. Sage with Eyes of Blue was really big this week reaching Number 11. Other Lightsworn cards were still popular with Solar Recharge at Number 12 and Wulf, Lightsworn Beast at Number 14. Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon fell from the Top 10 but still landed at Number 13, and we saw Number 62: Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon rise to Number 15.

What shifts will we see in the TCGplayer Marketplace over the weekend? As always, you can join us again on Monday to find out.
