Welcome to our Friday Market Watch, and our second countdown in the wake of the release of Code of the Duelist.

On Monday we gave you a recap of the action from last weekend, examining the Top 10 bestselling cards from the Friday of Code of the Duelist's debut, to Monday morning. The biggest movers were the most splashable cards in the set for tournament play: Missus Radiant, Back to the Front, and Heavy Storm Duster at Number 3, Number 2, and Number 1 respectively. Meanwhile Vendreads took four spots in the Top 10; World Chalice took two; and Link Spider hung tight, still topping the charts at Number 7 despite Code of the Duelist (or maybe because of it).

So what changed this week? Kind of a lot! World Chalice disappeared from the sales charts as Lee the World Chalice Fairy and World Chalice Guardragon fell a bit in value, but still remained relatively expensive. Those three big splashable cards – Storm, Front, and Missus – remained huge, and while Vendreads lost some steam they still scored multiple Top 10 finishes. Meanwhile we saw more interest in Link-enabling cards from pre-COTD, as well as some interest in Lightsworn, Trickstars, and Supreme King Dragons.

Let's get to it, counting down the Top 10 bestselling cards this week from Monday to Friday!

#10: Lyla, Twilightsworn Enchantress

A lot of Lightsworn cards were really big in the run-up to Code of the Duelist, but once Twilightsworns arrived they didn't make much of a splash in the TCGplayer Marketplace. That changed a bit over the past four days, with Lyla, Lightsworn Enchantress leading the Charge.

Right now, players don't really know what to make of the Twilightsworn in competition. The theme's seen very little success in Asia, but a new F&L List could swerve that in a different direction here in the TCG. All the Twilightsworn cards are really affordable right now, so it's not surprising to see players and speculators taking interest.

#9: Trickstar Light Stage

Trickstars have seen more competitive success abroad, and while Trickstar Reincarnation's pretty pricy for a strategy that's unproven here in the TCG, Trickstar Light Stage is potentially undervalued at five bucks. The consistent upper end for a good, theme-specific Ultra Rare is largely ten dollars, so there's big room for growth here. Light Stage is an amazing Field Spell that gives an immediate +1 of card economy with its search effect, and can plus you every turn starting with the turn you play it, by stripping your opponent's backrow. The fact that it also disrupts those backrow cards and can push through your attacks and combos makes it even better, and then it deals chip damage as well, because Trickstars.

It's easy to see the appeal here, especially with World Chalice now more expensive and in lower supply; that theme's basically out of the way, leading many players to focus more on other COTD strategies.

#8: Revendread Slayer

Down from Number 5 over the weekend, the current crux of the Vendread strategy is still wildly popular. The Vendreads are easily the most talked-about theme from Code of the Duelist and with good reason: easy combos that offer great results, combined with lots of searching, smart card economy, and high consistency makes the deck really attractive even with just five cards in the mix so far.

#7: Revendread Origin

And of course, wherever Revendread Slayer goes, Revendread Origin is there too. Last week we saw it at Number 4, one spot above Slayer, and now it's shifted downward to match Slayer's slight drop.

Revendread Origin's an amazing card that makes your Ritual Tributes free by taking them from your graveyard; makes your Ritual Monsters free by reviving them; and then goes so far as to protect Revendread Slayer from destruction once it's on the field. That's nutty, and the fact that it's searchable with Pre-Preparation of Rites clinches Vendreas as a possible contender.

#6: Supreme King Dragon Clear Wing

Check out recent results from OCG tournaments logged by our friends over at The Organization, and you'll see that Pendulum Magicians have made a modest comeback overseas. Those decks pack lots of Dark non-Tuner Pendulums, and that means they're running this Raigeki-on-legs.

They're also playing Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom, which almost drove that card into the Top 10 as well – it came in at Number 11 for the week.

#5: Link Spider

We could argue about whether Link Spider or Missus Radiant is the best Link Monster enabling Extra Deck Summons in the game, but realistically you're probably going to play both anyways. Link Spider is the single easiest Link Summon in the game, and while it doesn't accomplish much for your field set-up all on its own, it's an essential card for chaining Link Summons into bigger and bigger monsters.

It's fast, easy, and it works with our next card to make plays that are far greater than the sum of their parts.

#4: Blackwing – Gofu the Vague Shadow

Gofu disappeared from the Top 10 on Monday just momentarily, and came roaring back this week to take the Number 4 spot. Three of the Top 5 bestselling cards this week were Link Summon enablers, which speaks volumes about the mechanic's acceptance after some early skepticism from a lot of players.

Blackwing – Gofu the Vague Shadow's three monsters for the price of one, and while Vague Shadow Tokens can't be used for Link Summons that demand Effect Monsters as Link Materials, they do become Link Spiders in an instant, largely solving your problems.

You can banish this card and 1 or more face-up non-Tuners you control, then target 1 "Blackwing" Synchro Monster in your Graveyard whose Level equals the total Levels the banished monsters had on the field; Special Summon it, and if you do, it is treated as a Tuner.

#3: Heavy Storm Duster

The Number 1 card of the weekend dropped to Number 3 this week, but that might only be because so many people have already bought their copies. Heavy Storm Duster is a turn slower than Twin Twisters, but the card economy is far better as a potential +1, or as you'll see it some portion of the time, not a -1 if you just need to destroy one card.

The continued demand for Heavy Storm Duster demonstrates a widespread intent to play it, and that's going to be valuable insight when Regionals kick off again next week. Expect to see this thing in tournaments.

#2: Missus Radiant

While Link Spider might be the easiest monster to Link Summon, Missus Radiant is the easiest one that'll open up two of your Main Monster Zones for Extra Deck monsters, which… is probably your actual goal? Compatible with a lot of field-flooding earth monsters from Zoodiacs, to Dandylion, to M-X-Saber Invoker and more, it's an obvious must for competition, and at a buck fifty now's definitely the time to pick it up.

#1: Back to the Front

And finally, the Number 1 bestselling card of the week was Back to the Front! It's no surprise to see Back to the Front back in the Top 3 once again, and a bit of a trade-off amongst Missus Radiant, Heavy Storm Duster, and this is really to be expected on a week-to-week basis. These are the most widely applicable cards from Code of the Duelist, and with post-COTD metagames relatively open right now, this sort of highly accessible, splashable card is what's going to have the most appeal to players.

What else was hot this week? As we mentioned before, Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom was the 11th most purchased card in the TCGplayer Marketplace, suggesting that players are keeping a careful eye on Pendulum Magicians moving forward. Meanwhile Trickstar Lycoris and Trickstar Candina took Number 12 and Number 15 respectively, while Goukis represented with Gouki Twistcobra at Number 14, and Chain Summoning saw a spike to Number 13.

We also saw heavy interest in Zoodiac Chakanine, Solar Recharge, and Jain, Twilightsworn General from a niche audience of buyers. There are clearly some bets being placed on Lightsworn.

We'll be back on Monday with another Market Watch; will we see more big shifts as Code of the Duelist pans out? Probably. But we won't know for sure until we see the Top 10.

See you then!
