YCS Toronto, YCS Rimini, and a new round of Regional Qualifiers are in the record books, while the 2017 Mega-Tins have run wild over the TCGplayer Marketplace!

Despite middling impressions in some circles, the new Mega-Tin promos and Mega Pack reprints crushed everything else in the TCGplayer Marketplace this weekend, filling the entire Top 10 and then some. If you kept reading down the list of hottest selling cards from Friday to Monday, you'd have to hit Number 13 – Back to the Front – to find a card from a previous release. Even the Token Cards outsold Missus Radiant, which has been the most-demanded card from Code of the Duelist.

While a lot of cards seemed to be missing from the 2017 Mega-Tins, we saw huge interest in reprints for Zoodiacs, Zombie Lightsworn, and Dark Magician. Meanwhile the Top 4 was occupied by four of the most splashable cards in the game, as we'll see in a little bit.

Let's dive straight into the weekend's Top 10.

#10: Zoodiac Barrage

One one hand, it might be surprising to see Zoodiac Barrage selling so strongly when the widespread expectation is that Zoodiacs will get hammered on the new F&L List. But after weeks of no new Advanced Format materializing, and more players starting to consider the very real possibility that Barrage may go untouched if hits are made to Zoodiac Drident and perhaps Zoodiac Broadbull, the enthusiasm does make some sense.

If Zoodiac Xyz Monsters are curbed, it's possible Zoodiac Barrage could stay at three per deck to keep the strategy at least looking viable, if not truly competitive. Available for about $2.50, Barrage has never been this affordable, and if it shoots back up into the double digits there's some healthy profit to be made for risk-taking speculators.

#9: Shiranui Solitaire

Zombie Lightsworn topped right out of the gates last weekend , and it's very likely the deck will dodge any hits on whatever F&L List we eventually see. Combined with more Vendreads waiting in the wings for Circuit Break and future releases, players flocked to the reprinted Shiranui Solitaire; forever a staple for Zombie decks.

#8: Elder Entity N'tss

Taking a lot of heat for arriving two years too late in the minds of some, Elder Entity N'tss turned out to be a tempting pick at less than a quarter a pop. Does the card have potential thanks to Link Summoning mechanics? That seems to be the working hypothesis, and its general versatility made it a surprisingly popular choice despite its cost. Still, the fact that players would pick it up en masse as a single suggests that 2017 Mega-Tins are either sold out in a lot of areas, or players simply don't want to pick them up in full.

#7: Magician Navigation

We're deep into another year of nostalgia-driven releases, and at this point it's common knowledge: Yugi and Kaiba move serious units. Magician Navigation was one of two pricy Dark Magician cards from The Dark Illusion and while they chiefly appeal to casual players, those duelists often didn't want to throw down the dough they commanded as Secret Rares.

Now that Navigation's available for a fraction of its former price, a lot of casual players and oldschool fans appear to have come out of the woodwork to snag their copies.

#5: Dark Magical Circle

The deck-filtering and card-stacking Dark Magical Circle outsold both Navigation and The Ultimate Wizard In Terms Of Attack And Defense™, offering an element of selection that often makes it a straight +1, and a banish trick that can make your opponents' cards disappear. Even pricier than Magician Navigation at times, its appeal as a proactive hand fixer and a continuous source of card advantage and spot removal is easy to understand. That pushed itn all the way to the Number 5 spot.

#4: Dimensional Barrier

Transitioning off casual cards into the realm of tournament play, Dimensional Barrier sold like hotcakes all weekend long. There was some speculation that Barrer, “Wasn't good anymore, “ because “Link Monsters are a thing now.” But that logic doesn't really apply when nobody plays Link Monsters, and pretty much everyone continues to run Zoodiacs. At this point even the most celebrated and successful Link Summoning decks rely on Xyz Summons anyways, and the only deck dodging this thing is Chain Burn and World Chalice .

Those decks will probably matter really soon, but right now they're still seeing only minimal play.

Dimensional Barrier, still really good.

#3: Cosmic Cyclone

The state of backrow removal in the game today is really fascinating. If you hit the Deck Archive and check out YCS Toronto and the last two weeks of Regional Qualifiers in North America, you see Cosmic Cyclone as the favorite removal option, played in the wake of True Draco Zoodiacs' win at the North American WCQ. That deck's everywhere, and its ubiquity makes Cosmic Cyclone an easy pick for its ability to eliminate True Draco Continuous Spell and Trap Cards.

But look at YCS Rimini over in Italy and it's a totally different story. While Cosmic Cyclone saw considerable play, Heavy Storm Duster was also massively popular, seeing widespread play in two's and three's, including Main Decked use. The attitudes toward removal options in North America and Europe are clearly very different, despite Heavy Storm Duster selling exceedingly well in the run-up to the YCS weekend.

Now, with True Dracos putting in a huge showing at YCS Toronto, Cosmic Cyclone is affirmed as the removal option of choice. For now. Dropping from 15+ dollars to $5 or $6, a ton of players were picking up their copies. It's always going to be a card you'll want a playset of, and that made it an easy buy while we wait for the new F&L List.

#2: Pot of Desires

Pot of Desires made a huge comeback in the WCQ season and now stands as a staple for a number of decks where it once didn't see play; namely Zoodiac variants. Desires once topped the $90 mark, and even at $20 it was well out of the reach of budget players. Now, at about $3.50 a pop, it's an easy buy for anyone who didn't have their copies before.

Draw two cards for virtually no cost or penalty? That's going to be good basically forever. The fact that it still sees ubiquitous play in an era where the most competitive decks implode if they banish their key combo pieces just goes to show how resource-driven competition has become in this sunset era of the format, and just how powerful Pot of Desires is in refined tournament landscapes.

#1: Proxy Dragon

But reprints aside, the biggest card of the weekend was our runner-up from Friday, none other than Proxy Dragon. An easy Link 2 with Left and Right Arrows and a better effect than Honeybot, Proxy Dragon sets up the Extra Deck access you need in your Main Monster Zones for some of your biggest combos, then uses those filled Monster Zones as fodder to protect elements of your plays. If we've learned anything about player attitudes toward Link Monsters in the current environment, it's that the easier they are to play the more likely they are to see table time, and that's made Proxy Dragon an obvious must-own.

A lynchpin for the big Firewall Dragon combo decks and virtually anything else relying on Link Monsters, it's fast, flexible, and highly effective at what it does.

What else was big over the weekend? Early news about Burning Abyss Link Summoning support in the OCG sold out all printings of Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, though the action was nowhere near the sheer number of sales needed to make a dent on the bestsellers list.

Meanwhile we saw strong niche interest in Blue-Eyes White Dragon; Foolish Burial Goods came in at Number 11; Drowning Mirror Force at Number 12; Back to the Front at Number 13, as we mentioned before; Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries at Number 14; and Toadally Awesome rounded out our Top 15. Decode Talker and Missus Radiant fell to Number 18 and Number 20 respectively.

That's it for today, but as always we'll be back on Friday with another Market Watch! We've got dozens of YCS and Regional Top Cut lists over in the Deck Archive, and the deck lists from those events plus a possible F&L List drop late in the week could swerve sales in the TCGplayer Marketplace any day.
