Market Watch Top 10: Extreme Force Reactions
12/8/2017 11:02:00 AM
Comments

The big news of the week was the reveal of import cards from the OCG's LINK
VRAINS Pack,
scheduled for release stateside in Extreme Force
. The market reacted accordingly.
Looking at sales numbers from Monday to Friday this week, the brunt of the
impact seems to've been dealt by
Heavymetalfoes Electrumite
, the first of the cards to be spotlighted on the official Konami strategy
site. Calling for two Pendulum Monsters as its Link Materials, Electrumite
loads your Extra Deck, recovers Pendulums from the Extra Deck to your hand,
and nabs you free draws when your Pendulum Spells leave the field.
That had an immediate impact on Pendulum Magicians, revitalizing interest
in the theme and shooting two of the deck's staple monsters into the Top
10. Beyond that, generic Link Monsters were even more popular than theyw
ere before, while enabling cards spiked as well. The Link Monster
acceptance train just keeps chugging along.
With no further ado, let's take you straight to the Top 10.
#10: Decode Talker
While Proxy Dragon and Missus Radiant are a common sight here in Market
Watch, the just-as-ubiquitous Decode Talker is a rarity in the Top 10. It
managed to take the Number 10 spot this week as increased discussion drew
more attention to Links in general. Meanwhile tournament results continue
to push decks further toward Link Summoning, leading to more demand.

#9: Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio
A tremendous enabler for Link Summons, Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio featured
in several Top Cut decks from YCS Prague and it's a definite get when so
many awesome Link Monsters are cluttering the horizon. Even if many of them
are themed, some of the best are actually approaching generic, including
Cherubini, Black Angel of the Burning Abyss
and
Crystron Needlefiber
.
Predaplants can open up a lot of doors with their different abilities, and
the recent tournament success plus upward trajectory was enough to kick
Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio to Number 9.

#8: Solemn Strike
Solemn Strike: still an amazing card everyone should own.
The wealth of Go-Second SPYRAL decks winning tournaments lately has created
a divide, with players hoping to go first now forced to defend their
established fields even more. That's one of the many factors continuing to
drive demand for Solemn Strike, which continues to appear in
ever-increasing numbers in Top Cut lists.

Weeks after the release of Spirit Warriors, the Samurai hype is
still alive, perhaps owing to the anticipation for

#6: Purple Poison Magician
The early hubbub-driving “leak” of
Heavymetalfoes Electrumite
sparked a renewed fervor for Pendulum Magicians, which were already in a
powder keg state after the deck took four spots in the Top 32 at YCS Buenos
Aires. We've seen Purple Poison Magician become one of the strongest
sellers for the Pendulum Magician theme in the deck's hottest weeks, so
it's no surprise to see it here.

#5: Dogoran, the Mad Flame Kaiju
This one's a bit more of a blank slate to me. Kaiju engines complete with
Interrupted Kaiju Slumber are definitely up in Top Cut tableshare, but was
that enough to drive Dogoran alone into the Top 10? I feel like I'm missing
something here. Dinosaurs?
If you have the answer, let me know down in the comments.

#4: Soul Charge
Fresh off its latest reprint in Cyberse Link, Soul Charge is
played in SPYRALs and a wealth of other currently competitive decks. It's a
big pick for Six Samurai as well, which spiked in demand at the same time
off the release of Spirit Warriors.
Soul Charge has essentially been on the cusp of brokenness since it was
released, and as a flexible, splashable card that can often function as a
win button almost entirely on its own, occasional spikes of demand are a
fairly regular occurrence.

#3: Astrograph Sorcerer
Also back in large part due to the impact of Heavymetalfoes Electrumite,
Astrograph Sorcerer. We've seen Astrograph fall out of competitive favor in
tournaments over the past four to six weeks, but it's always been a hot
seller in the TCGplayer Marketplace. It's got an obvious appeal both as a
possible competitive pick, and just as an attractive boss monster, and that
seems to keep demand strong when interest in Pendulum Magicians is on the
rise.

#1: Pot of Desires
And once again, the bestselling card of the year logged another week in the
Number 1 spot. The past several weeks has seen players trying to work Pot
of Desires into decks where it wasn't previously played – including SPYRAL,
in at least some cases. At the same time, rising popularity of stuff like
Magicians, Zombies, and Infernoids has kept up the demand for Desires, too.
As one of the most powerful cards in the game today, Pot of Desires has
become a common sight in the Number 1 spot.

What else was big this week? We saw more Magician enthusiasm with Duelist
Alliance and Double Iris Magician at Numbers 12 and 13 respectively. We saw
a potential backlash against Magicians too, with Anti-Spell Fragrance
clocking in at Number 11.
SPYRAL Tough and Terraforming took the Number 14 and Number 15 spots,
demonstrating that the SPYRAL hype train is still well on track, while
Zefraath sold to the Number 16 position. If you missed it, Zefras broke
onto the competitive radar three weeks ago
when Maurice Douglas Top 8'd the Lenex Regional Qualifier with a
dedicated build
. He played triple Zefraath, rightly so, and left quite the impression.
That's it for this week, but we'll be back on Monday with a look at all the
action from this weekend. See you then!
