Combo King Crowned
Jesse Colbert

In Rise of Destiny the king of all combo cards was released. That king, my friends, is Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast. He is a Level 7 monster with 2800 attack points and 2000 defense points. His card text says that he can be normal summoned or set without a tribute. If so its attack and defense is cut in half.

At quick glance this card does not make it stand out. It is a 2-tribute monster with 2800 attack points. This is 200 less than Blue Eyes White Dragon, so it’s nothing special. Fusilier’s effect allows it to be played without a tribute, but it becomes a normal summon monster with 1400 attack and 1000 defense. Again, this isn't special. I would agree that by itself Fusilier Dragon, the Dual Mode Beast, is not special, but when used in a combo Fusilier quickly becomes a card worthy of tournament play, and there are so many possible combos with Fusilier that makes him a true force to be reckoned with.

I have actually confirmed these rulings, so they should be correct.

Skill Drain combos well with Fusilier. Summon Fusilier in normal summon mode, which halves its attack and defense, then activate Skill Drain, making it a 2800 beat-stick that you normal summoned. Here though is the best part; if Skill Drain is later destroyed, Fusilier’s attack still remains 2800. The Skill Drain Deck just got is new best friend.

3 copies of Skill Drain along with 3 of each Fusilier, Armor Exe, Goblin Attack Force, Giant Orc, and Jirai Gumo is a deck to greatly be feared. The sheer attack power of the Skill Drain Deck without tributing a single monster is awesome, and kills you in a hurry. The Skill Drain Deck alone makes Fusilier a force, but there are more combos than just the Skill Drain combo.

Next we have Book of Moon or Tsukuyomi, both of which flip monsters face down. If Fusilier is normal summoned, with his stats halved, then flipped face down by another cards effect like Book of Moon or Tsukuyomi, when Fusilier is flipped back face up it will have its full 2800 attack and 2000 defense. Why this works that way I don’t know, but that is the ruling, so this is another easy way to get a normal summoned monster with a huge 2800 attack strength on the field.

Normal summon Fusilier, and activate Book of Moon and you have a big time monster with no tribute. The obvious bonus of this method over Skill Drain is that it does not cost 1000 life-points per turn like Skill Drain. Flip Effect Decks like The Needle Worm Deck should run a few Fusiliers because they are already running Tsukuyomi and Book of Moon.

After that there is Megamorph. This is an often over-looked Equip Spell Card. It doubles the monster’s original attack strength if you have less life-points that your opponent, and it halves the monster’s original attack strength if you have more life-points than your opponent. You can double your monsters attack if you are behind, and you can halve your opponent’s attack strength if you are ahead, both of which are really nice.

It also takes out Spirit Reaper, which is a pain in all our necks, but let’s get back to Fusilier. The magic word on Megamorph is the “original” attack strength, which on Fusilier is 2800. If you are behind in a duel, normal summon Fusilier, attach it with Megamorph and you have 5600 behemoth on the field without a single tribute. This seems pretty good.

By the way, I have yet to mention that Fusilier is a machine monster, with all of the support that goes along with machine monsters. Most notably, there is Limiter Removal, which doubles the current, not original, attack of all face up machine monsters. That means that your Fusilier with a Megamorph equipped becomes an 11,600 attack power monster when you activate Limiter Removal. Get a clean attack off and the duel is over. This is a simple 3 card one-turn kill, making it a nice killer combo.

While we are on the brief subject of support, Fusilier is also a dark monster, meaning it is fit for Chaos Decks as well. This card is good is so many different decks it is amazing.

The last combo I will mention, I am sure there are others, is Metamorphosis. Here you have a level 7 monster that does not require a tribute. Then, you play Metamorphosis and you can bring out one of the nastiest fusion monsters out there, The Last Warrior from Another Planet. If your opponent has multiple monsters out bashing your life points to pieces, just summon Fusilier and play Metamorphosis. When you bring out The Last Warrior he destroys all monsters on the field, and no one can summon any monsters, so you have a direct path to his or her life points.

The Last Warrior has always been a tough monster to handle, but too difficult to get into play. Now, The Last Warrior is one of the easiest fusion monsters to summon permanently. The Metamorphosis Deck should see a rise in popularity since it has another good and easy to summon fusion monster in the Last Warrior of Another Planet and it is all possible because of Fusilier.

This card also combos well in one other deck that I want to mention that has come out out of Rise of Destiny, and that is The Creator Deck. Yes, The Creator needs its own deck to be successful. A Creator Deck should use a few more tribute monsters than the normal deck because you are trying to dump them into the graveyard and revive them with The Creator. Well, running four or more tribute monsters in your deck can easily clog up your hand with monsters that cannot be summoned, which we all know will lose you the duel. Fusilier is a 2800 attack point beat-stick if revived by The Creator, and he won't clog up your hand if you have no monsters to tribute to him. I think that 3 Fusiliers in a Creator Deck are the way to go.

Look at all the decks that Fusilier fits into. First, there is the Machine Deck, with its Limiter Removal. Then, there is the Flip Effect Deck that runs multiple copies of Book of Moon and Tsukuyomi to boost Fusilier. Also, there is the Chaos Deck because it is food for Chaos Sorcerer or Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning. Next, there is the Skill Drain Deck, which Fusilier becomes the new big dog in. Then you have the Metamorphosis Deck that will bring out The Last Warrior of Another Planet, and The Creator Deck so your hand does not get clogged. I am sure I have missed a deck or 2.

Here is a little advice on what I think a Fusilier Machine Deck should look like, since I have not posted a deck in a while.

@@@@@DECKID=4301@@@@@

The Machine Monsters are pretty straightforward. Jinzo is there because he controls the field. Blowback Dragon is good with its card removal chance and its power. 3 X-Head Cannon to be your muscle. You can go with 3 Mechanicalchaser if you have more money than I do, but I cannot in good conscience spend 100 dollars on a card when there is a 2-dollar card with only 50 points less, but if you got the cash, go for it. Cannon Soldier and Scapegoat to burn away your opponent’s life points. Reflect Bounder for a little life point damage. Magical Scientist is present to combo with the Metamorphosis to bring out other fusion monsters, and Magician of Faith is here to bring back that Limiter to annihilate your opponent again. Then there are the other staple monsters.

D. D., Breaker, Tribe, all have there well known uses, and Black Luster Solider is there just because this deck has the light and dark monsters, and if you have both light and dark in your deck, there is no reason not to run this card if you want to win and are not playing casually.

3 Fusilier Dragons are the key to this deck because of all the solid combos with it. Book of Moon, Megamorph, Limited Removal, and Metamorphosis are all there. The best is to attack with a Fusilier that has been boosted with a Limited Removal, and then in your Main Phase II, use metamorphosis before Fusilier is destroyed in the end phase. That is a nice way to really stick it to your opponent.

The rest of the deck is pretty much standard.

I've given one example of the many decks that Fusilier can make better. If you are running a Skill Drain Deck, you should just remove the 3 monsters in your deck with the lowest attack strength, and add 3 Fusilier. If you are running Deck Out Deck, you will want to add a couple of Fusilier as a back up plan if your Needle Worms get Crossed Out because you already are running Book of Moon and Tsukuyomi.

I hope the article will help you to use that king of all combo cards; Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast. It is a fun card to use, and I know I have missed a few combos that Fusilier is capable of. Try this card out. I do think it truly a tournament worthy card.
